TTH Attorney Ben Peoples Elected President of DC Defense Lawyers’ Association
October 06, 2021
The DC Defense Lawyers’ Association (“DCDLA”) has elected Thomas, Thomas & Hafer, LLP (“TTH”) partner, Charles “Ben” Peoples, to be its President for the 2021-2022 term. The DCDLA is the District of Columbia’s premier professional organization for lawyers who devote a substantial amount of their professional time to the trial of civil cases in the District of Columbia, and whose representation in such cases is primarily for the defense. The DCDLA’s purpose is to facilitate the exchange of information, techniques and rulings that enhance the knowledge and improve the skills of defense lawyers; to elevate the standards of trial practice; to support and work for the improvement of the adversary system of jurisprudence in the courts; to work for the elimination of court congestion and delays in civil litigation; to promote improvements in the administration of justice; and to increase the quality of service and contribution that the legal profession renders to the community. The DCDLA consists of over 100 lawyers from over 25 law firms.
Ben’s election carries on a strong tradition of TTH lawyers leading the defense bar. Several members of the firm have served as President of a similar organization, the Pennsylvania Defense Institute, those lawyers including Pete Speaker, a partner in the firm’s Harrisburg office; Lou Long, a partner in the firm’s Pittsburgh office; and most recently, Monica O’Neill, a partner in the firm’s Philadelphia office.
TTH is an insurance defense firm with 85 lawyers in 12 offices throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Ben leads the firm’s Washington, DC office, where he handles a variety of general liability, first-party and subrogation cases. Before joining TTH, Ben obtained his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law and clerked on Maryland’s Court of Special Appeals.
