Thomas, Thomas & Hafer, LLP Attorney, Justin D. Beck, participating in the American Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation and Employers’ Liability Mid-Winter Seminar, March 27 – 28, 2020 in New Orleans, LA.
February 11, 2020
March 2020, New Orleans, LA – TT&H Attorney Justin D. Beck will be a key participant in the American Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation and Employers’ Liability Mid-Winter Seminar. The seminar will be held at the Westin Canal Place hotel in downtown New Orleans. Mr. Beck will be moderating the panel discussion on “Workers’ Compensation and the “GIG” Economy: Challenges Flowing from Temporary Work.” The panel will address the law, and developments surrounding, workers’ compensation as the program faces the evolution of the so-called “gig” economy.
This phenomenon, also called “nonstandard work,” is marked by a growing number of workers assigned—often questionably—as independent contractors, and by an increased number of workers laboring via (1) temporary and staffing companies; (2) “Professional Employer Organizations” (PEOs); (3) franchise outlets; (4) via platform intermediaries; and (5) as individual entrepreneurs.
Justin will lead the panel discussion consisting of Professor Michael C. Duff, University of Wyoming School of Law, Laramie, WY and the Honorable David B. Torrey, Workers’ Compensation Judge, Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, Pittsburgh, PA. The panel discussion will be held on Friday, March 27th, 2020.
This Conference is one of the premier national workers’ compensation seminars, attracting plaintiff/claimants’ attorneys, defense attorneys, judges, and industry experts from across the country. More information on the conference can be found here.
